Reported Attack Site-WordPress Blog

Reported Attack Site-WordPress Blog
I am just a wordpress guy who has been blocked by Google and marked “Reported Attack Site” twice in last two days for two different sites. I panicked and I had no idea why on earth Google could do this to me when I am trying to honest to my visitors everyday. So, I started investigation and in less than 24 hr, Google removed the block from http://calcuttatube.com. Just few minutes back I have same “Reported Attack Site” alert for http://calcuttaglobalchat.net” I have performed the same actions as I did for http://calcuttatube.com and requested a review to google. Let’s see how long google takes to remove their search engine ban from calcuttaglobalchat.net.

What I did?
I got angry and decided to call google. If you go to http://www.google.com/contact/, you will find their contact phone no., fax and postal address. I called but end up with automated voice message saying they do not provide phone support. So, if you are facing the same problem, DO NOT WASTE TIME CALLING GOOGLE. I have pretty much tried all of their options and none of them would take you to some representative.

Well What Next?
I knew that I do not put any malware knowingly. So I was mad with Google. Then I thought, well, why not trust google for a minute and investigate my sites. I started looking for online websites that check for any malicious programs on your website. I tested my sites with a couple and sure enought both of them reported malicious activities. So, I checked the url of the websites that are causing problem. To my surprise, they were pages like

http://calcuttatube.com/fr/

http://calcuttatube.com/it

I instantly realize that problem may be due to the wordpress plugin “WordPress Global Translator” that I have installed few days back. Instantly I uninstalled and removed the plugin. I then check my websites again with the Web Malware verification tools. The results were clean. I log onto my Google Webmasters tool and requested them for a review. Thanks to google that they took promt action and removed the Search Engine Ban withing 24 hr.

Bottom line: I am not blaming the Global Translator plugin. May be it was for something else. But Removing the plugin sure saved my life.

This is something I have learned and recommend you all to do periodically.

  1. Do not install plugins that are not required.
  2. Delete plugin files that you do not use.
  3. Check your website for Malwares periodically.
Here are some websites that I used and will give you wonful result aboutthe malware in your webpage:

1. Norton Safe Web: http://safeweb.norton.com/ – The Norton rating is a result of Symantec’s automated analysis system. It will tell you if your site is safe for the users.

Norton Safe

2. Web Anti Malware: http://wam.dasient.com/wam/ They have free check and premium check. I only used the Free check for malwares and that worked well. They would check for 32 random pages and scan for any malwares. If you site has any malware, it will list the pages with problems or if it is clean it will say so.

Have you fond some malware with the check?
1. Go throught the plugins, check codes. Remove suspicious, backdated plugins.
2. Re-upload all wordpress files to your server (not necessary, but I do recommend).
3. Check for malware again.

Repeat the steps above till you get “0″ malware in you site.

I know I have not answered all of your questions. But I am not a TECH guy. I do hope that have given you something that would help you towards right direction.

Once you have found that you have no more malwares in your website, log on to Google Webmaster Tools and request for a review.

I hope you will get faster reselt from Google as I did.
